As part of California's effort to support the caregiving workforce ("CalGrows"), Givers Health and Berkeley's Center for Independent Living developed a library of free, evidence-based training content for direct care workers, Home and Community-Based Service providers, and unpaid family and friend caregivers.
These courses cover person-centered care, activities of daily living, emergency preparedness, self care, and other topics to build caregiving skills. They are available in English and Spanish. Core Caregiving Skills: A Comprehensive Overview: Cover the most common skills needed in caregiving, frameworks for care, and tools for future learning.
Emergency Preparedness for Caregivers: Develop a disaster preparedness plan so you’re as ready as you can be when the unexpected hits.
Person-Centered Care: The Art and Science of Caregiving: Learn how to work with your care recipient to create a custom plan that reflects what’s important to them.
Activities of Daily Living: Additional Topics: Go beyond the basics with additional demonstrations on how to support care recipients' activities of daily living.
Common Health Conditions: Diagnosis and Disease Process: Learn about symptoms, common challenges, and approaches to challenges for common conditions such as diabetes, dementia, and heart disease.
Disability Justice: Learn about the Disability Rights movement and Disability Justice frameworks.
